Top 5 social media news stories for MARCH3 min read
The beginning of spring has not passed us by with more interesting news from social media.
In this newsletter I decided to collect all the news you need to know.
Well, don't expect any big surprises this time, but there are definitely some good hits.
1 - The chronological newsfeed at Instagram is now available for everyone.
This means that users have the option to see posts in the order they were published and without the help of an algorithm that aims to display the most relevant content (relative to interests, signals and behaviours).
You can now choose from two more types of newsfeed:
🧍 Following: shows posts from all the people you follow.
⭐ Favorites: You can only see from selected/favorite accounts.
The catch is that you have to manually select the chronological feed each time you run the app, otherwise you'll see results from the good old algorithm.
As you can guess, not every user will have the nerve to change the setting constantly, but whether or not this is a well-planned move on Instagram's part - they'll definitely want to convince us that the algorithm does a better job.
PS. Even the newsfeed selection menu isn't very visible - you have to click on the Instagram icon in the top left corner.
2 - LinkedIn adds newsletters for the business pages.
This is probably my favorite news! Now that the platform has unlocked this option for content creators, business pages will now also be able to reach their audience through newsletters.
The big plus is that your followers get notified about the new newsletter so they can sign up for it. Literally in just 24 hours you will be able to reach hundreds of people.
Well, there are downsides such as the lack of adequate analytics from which to track open rates for example.
3 - Facebook и Instagram will not stop in Europe, relax!
I'm sure news of Meta's possible shutdown in Europe has reached you as well, but it doesn't look like that's going to happen. The European Commission initially warned Zuckerberg about the GDPR divergence and the opposition to data sharing overseas, but here's the Commission's agreement in principle with the US on a new framework for transatlantic data flows. Consider the problem solved 😉
4 – CreatorIQ: 66% of brands spend more money in content creators
Processed and filter-laden content takes a back seat to authentic and unpretentious content. Generation Z has made it clear that it doesn't tolerate artificial behavior, and marketers have long known this. To reach this audience, they partner with content creators. This group includes not only influencers, but also people with smaller followings but creating quality and original content. Currently, the platforms where we can find them most often are Instagram and TikTok. The power of UGC (User-Generated Content) will become increasingly visible.
5 - Soon you will be able to tag products in Instagram
Imagine a posted photo of sporting goods where you can tag specific brands so users can click through and find out more about them. This functionality is already available to a wide group of people, now across the US, and is planned to be fully available and free to all users globally soon. Instagram is reporting increased interest in product tagging. Sounds like a great tool for any small business, right?
That was all more interesting... for now! 😉
